case 1

Case 1:
The labels of "Two-finger tap" options are "Right-click" and "Middle-click" (both options are greyed out) when I open Touchpad KCM in these ways:
1. by running 'kcmshell5 kcm_touchpad' command, regardless the view mode (icon or sidebar) of System Setttings
2. via kickoff or krunner with System Settings is set to sidebar view
3. via System Settings in icon view mode

Case 2:
However, the labels of "Two-finger tap" options are "Right-click (three-finger tap to middle-click)"
and "Middle-click (three-finger tap right-click)" when I open Touchpad KCM in these ways:
1. via kickoff or krunner with System Settings in icon view mode
2. via System Settings in sidebar view mode

EXPECTED RESULTS
consistent labels

Operating System: KDE neon Unstable Edition
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.80
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.91.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3
Graphics Platform: X11

I just checked this in Plasma 5.25.5 and the labels seem consistent now.

However, all "Tapping" options are disabled (greyed out) in the "via System Settings in sidebar view mode" scenario, but they are enabled when launching via krunner in icon view mode, so there is clearly still inconsistencies here.

Can you reproduce any of them on 5.27? I may be doing it wrong but for me they all seem to produce consistent results now

2. via kickoff or krunner with System Settings is set to sidebar view
3. via System Settings in icon view mode
4. via kickoff or krunner with System Settings in icon view mode

Operating System: KDE neon 5.27
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.105.0
Qt Version: 5.15.9
Graphics Platform: X11
Comment 7 Harald Sitter 2023-05-01 20:22:00 UTC
Oh! I was looking at the wrong options :D Can reproduce now.
Comment 8 Harald Sitter 2023-05-01 21:23:25 UTC
Do any of you have a device which supports two finger input?
Comment 9 Patrick Silva 2023-05-01 21:38:37 UTC
I do middle-click by tapping with two-fingers.
Comment 10 Harald Sitter 2023-05-03 21:51:36 UTC
What appears to happen is that the values aren't getting properly initialized so the behavior becomes random because random memory gets read. :|
