STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In a wayland session start any application that uses "hardware mouse cursors" (used World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14 to verify)
2. Move the mouse cursor over any object that would change the cursors icon

OBSERVED RESULT
The cursor does not change to the supposed icon

EXPECTED RESULT
The cursor should reflect the object it is moused over

Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: 5.16.1-arch1-1 / 5.23.90
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.90

Can you reproduce it by playing a fullscreen video in firefox?

Only tested full wayland firefox and not able to reproduce.

Can this bug be reproduced with some free apps or games?
Comment 4 winblocker 2022-01-20 14:24:45 UTC
Just tested the game 0ad (from the official repositories). It has the same behavior.

Bug can be found in Discord. The cursor seems to update during alt-tab but not after.

Any application in xwayland mode is affected for me including Firefox. When hovering over a text input field, the cursor icon does not change. In Wayland mode (MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1) the cursor icon changes as expected.

Duplicate of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=447950?

That has been marked as fixed, not sure if that has made it's way into Arch KDE-Testing branch, if so, still bugged.
Comment 9 youduda 2022-01-23 22:33:18 UTC
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=447950 was fixed in master one day after 5.23.90 got released so it's still affected. With the current master build, the issue is solved. Closing
