SUMMARY: If you log out of Plasma and log back in, Plasma will take a long to load and it loads into a black screen with no panel or desktop icons, you can still use krunner though. This happens on both Wayland and X11 STEPS TO REPRODUCE: 1. Log into Plasma 2. Log out of Plasma 3. Repeat step one 4. Black Screen OBSERVED RESULT: Plasma loads into a black screen EXPECTED RESULT: Plasma should load a normal desktop SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS: Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.90 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.90.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 Kernel Version: 5.16.1-arch1-1 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 8 × AMD Ryzen 5 3450U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx Memory: 5.7 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Vega 8 Graphics
I got this on X11, on 5.23.90, with https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/merge_requests/1916 manually applied to my system. The system hung at the splash screen for a long time (without the right X11 font DPI set), then loaded into a black screen with only a mouse cursor and krunner (without the font DPI), where I could open Konsole (also without the font DPI). journalctl log at https://invent.kde.org/-/snippets/2051. I tried it again. logout, login, my system hung on SDDM with a grayed-out password, the mouse could move, I couldn't interact with SDDM, it wouldn't advance to the splash screen. IIRC pressing Caps Lock wouldn't toggle the light. A minute or so later, it advanced to a black screen *without* a working krunner (alt+f2 and alt+space did nothing). journalctl log at https://invent.kde.org/-/snippets/2052. It's strange how it took nearly 2 minutes from "org.kde.LogoutPrompt" to "Reached target Exit the Session." And i swear i logged out, reached sddm, and tried to log back in faster than that.
