SUMMARY
Places icons under X11 are rendered using tiny versions of the standard folder icons, which results in odd effects (ie. the folder turning black) when an entry is selected. This is not happening under Wayland, where places icons are symbolic and no artifacts are visible when an entry is selected. See attached screenshots for reference.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Boot into an X11 session
2. Launch dolphin
3. Click on any entry other than "Desktop" in the places panel

OBSERVED RESULT
Icons are colored, selection artifacts are present

EXPECTED RESULT
Symbolic icons should be used and no artifacts should be present.

Does this affect the icons in the open/save dialogs as well?

No, the open/save dialogs are OK (checked Kwrite and Okular, but I assume other apps are fine too)

Yay, then this is fixed automatically in Dolphin 22.04, which ported to the code used in the open/save dialogs.
