Created attachment 145359 [details] recording SUMMARY If i hover with the mouse too quickly onto an element and out of it or just pass through it accidentally, tooltips try to display themselves but then become corrupt. Usually they disappear after a couple seconds of confusing gibberish flickering. I have observed this in both standalone applications like Libreoffice and hovering over the default Plasma panel. This may be hard to reproduce and may seem like something niche oir unimportant but it does happen when you least expect it and gives plasma a broken look. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open a program with lots of widgets that display tooltips when hovered over 2. Try to pass with the mouse quickly over some of them randomly and quickly. OBSERVED RESULT The tooltips try to appear but are broken and don't display correctly. EXPECTED RESULT The tooltips either appear normally or don't appear for the quick passthrough at all. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.90.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 Kernel Version: 5.15.13-zen1-1-zen (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i3-2310M CPU @ 2.10GHz Memory: 7,6 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: Mesa DRI Intel® HD Graphics 3000
Does this only happen in LibreOffice apps, or in any other apps too?
Created attachment 145395 [details] qbittorrent recording also happens in QBittorrent
Created attachment 145396 [details] Plasma tooltips It is also present in Plasma tooltips but it's hard to trigger. So i'm not sure if it's worth mentioning but it's there.
OK, thanks! Moving to KWin as it seems to be related to the graphics stack, since it affects multiple kinds of tooltips. Still cannot reproduce on Wayland, maybe it's X11 specific?
Just tried it on Wayland, seems to be gone as well. But i notice the general behavior of tooltips here is different, they're much more instant without the resize-and-move animation.
