SUMMARY:
On apps that use portals for their file dialog, the portal dialog shows symbolic icons instead of regular icons 

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Use an app that supports portals for file dialogs
2. trigger the file dialog
3. symbolic icons instead of regular icons

OBSERVED RESULT:
File picker shows symbolic icons

EXPECTED RESULT:
File picker shows normal icons

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS:
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.89.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Kernel Version: 5.15.13-arch1-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 8 × AMD Ryzen 5 3450U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx
Memory: 5.7 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Vega 8 Graphics

Cannot reproduce with Plasma 5.24 version.

Does the regular non-portal dialog do the same thing? Or is it really just the portal file dialog?

It is just the portal dialog.

I see that the portal-using app is Chromium. Are you certain it's actually using portals, rather than KDialog? I thought that was what it used. Can you install a Flatpak app and try again?

I was using the Chromium Flatpak, which uses portals.
