Hi, According to IPTC.org, dc:Title means "a shorthand reference for the digital image. Title provides a short human readable name which can be a text and/or numeric reference. It is not the same as Headline. Many use the Title field to store the filename of the image [...]". And photoshop:Headline means "a brief synopsis of the caption. Headline is not the same as Title." So Headline is more related to Caption than Title. Thereby, it would be more logical to have an Headline field into the Caption/Description panel instead of a Title field. 1) Because of the similar semantic with Caption, 2) Because according to IPTC.org description, dc:Title tends to be unique so it is not logical to put it into a panel which allow to apply a Title to a set of selected photos (at the opposite, it seems logical to have many photos with the same headline ("birthday of Joe", as an example), 3) Because the Title field is into the sub-panel of Item edit metadata panel described as "Use this panel to record workflow information", when Headline filed is into the sub-panel Content, near the Caption field. Additional comment : The Metadata advanced setting panel relates xmp.dc.title to both xmp.acdsee.caption (which has the meaning of photoshop:Headline) and iptc.application2.objectname (which seems more related to the IPTC.org description of dc:Title). It is a little bit confusing. May be it could be better to be allow to set also related fields (such as acdsee.caption) for Headline.
I fully agree that Digikam can be improved with regards to setting the Title. I was planning to submit a stand-alone bug report, but since this is so related, I'll add it as a comment here. **Existing behaviour** Editing the single field `Right sidebar > Captions > Descriptions > Captions` will set the following 8(!) meta-data tags: EXIF:IFD0:ImageDescription + EXIF:ExifIFD:UserComment + IPTC:Caption-Abstract + XMP:XMP-dc:Description + XMP:XMP-exif:UserComment + XMP:XMP-tiff:ImageDescription + XMP:XMP-acdse:Notes + File:Comment. As a consequence, the following fields are set in the `Edit Metadata` dialog window: EXIF > Caption > Description EXIF > Caption > Caption IPTC > Content > Caption XMP > Content > Caption Similarly editing the single field `Right sidebar > Captions > Descriptions > Title` will set 3 meta-data tags: XMP:XMP-dc:Title + XMP:XMP-acdsee:Caption + IPTC:ObjectName However -and here lies my surprise-, this does not update any of the following fields in the `Edit Metadata` dialog window: XMP > Content > Headline ---> XMP:XMP-photoshop:Headline EXIF > Caption > Name ---> EXIF:IFD0:DocumentName IPTC > Content > Headline ---> IPTC:Headline **Expected behaviour:** Given the mismatch in behaviour between "Title" and "Caption" fiels, and given the report by @mahikeulbody, I would have expected the "Captions > Description" sidebar NOT to contain a "Title" field, but instead a "Headline" field, which would update the XMP, EXIF and IPTCP headline tags.
If i well understand this report, the whish is to rename the "Title" annotation as "Headline" in the Captions tab from right sidebar. Right ? Gilles Caulier

Right ? > > Gilles Caulier It is not about to "rename" the same field but about to use another field ("headline") in the Captions tab. Of course, we would need another place to to edit "Title".
*** Bug 481217 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
(In reply to Maik Qualmann from comment #4) > *** Bug 481217 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** It is not exactly a duplicate but I agree it is a better place here since it is talking about the same thing. Resuming, my wish is : 1) to relocate Title field from Metadata Edit XMP Status panel to Metadata Edit Content panel , along the existing Caption and Headline fields [I am not concerned by Exif and IPTC panels but I suppose it should be logical to do the same) 2) to add Headline field into Caption Sidebar panel, along the existing Caption and Title fields 3) (as a bonus) to display the three fields in this order : Title, Headline, Caption By the way, IPTC panels should be named IIM (or IPTC/IIM) since XMP is also an IPTC standard.
