Description Tomas 2021-12-30 22:18:53 UTC
It would be nice to be able to reorder columns in "Applications" and "Processes" pages by dragging column headers just like in Dolphin.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 21.10
KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.89

Columns can be re-ordered in the "configure columns" view. Can you expand on why this doesn't suffice? Note we have some open bugs on improving that view ordering so active ones are first.
Comment 2 Tomas 2022-01-05 10:17:06 UTC
Because it is much easier to reorder the columns on the go, right in GridView component (don't know the actual class name). And it is also for consistency. On somd apps you can reorder them on the go, while in others you can't. Isn't this the same GridView controll used in all the apps?
Comment 3 David Edmundson 2022-01-05 12:19:51 UTC
"because it's easier" isn't an example use case of a situation where you need to re-order on a regular basis.

Consistency is a solid argument though.

> Isn't this the same GridView controll used in all the apps?

In an ideal world. In practice there are at least 5.
Comment 4 Tomas 2022-01-05 12:43:05 UTC
Of course it is. Why make things difficult when can have adjustments made easy and consistent? So in other apps its ok to have reordering in the go when in System Monitor its somehow not ok?

This was done intentionally, as reordering columns is something that you don't really do often and the entire table can now be changed as part of a single action. We don't intend to change how this works.

Personally I would actually greatly prefer it if more applications moved away from the drag ordering, as I find it quite awkward to use and it is not discoverable at all.

So because you find it akward to reorder columns that means every app now has to disable that feature? How can it be "akward" when all the app use this method in Windows and Linux? What really is akward is to make it more difficult for a user to find out how to reorder columns. A non standard way. How can it be not "discoverable" when all apps use it? People coming from Windows knows this very well.

This is a very basic thing, so please implement it here. Or bring back KSysGuard.

BTW currently reordering columns in that view is not working. Actually, the "Configure Columns" view is a hell, it doesn't even have a search.
