Created attachment 144743 [details] dolphin window as I expect it to open SUMMARY Whenever dolphin opens, all 4 panels are open, and the whole window is small (only a quarter of the screen). The central part of the window is so small that it's useless. STEPS TO REPRODUCE Simply open a new Dolphin window, by any normal method. OBSERVED RESULT Small window, all panels open, central panel too small to be usable. The menus and toolbars are OK, as is the folder that is shown in the centre. EXPECTED RESULT Window configuration (size, position, panels) should be the same as the last window I used. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Manjaro KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.88.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I have to press F4, F9, F11, drag the window to a bigger size, drag the folder panel wider. (Even if I simply go to full screen, the extra panels restrict what can be seen too much. And I don't go full screen, as there's a column of icons on the desktop that I drag files onto.) This behavior is new in KDE Gear version 12.12.0 (Manjaro stable update 2021-12-16). It's possible that it's caused by a change in a config item, but I have looked through Settings > Configure Dolphin, and they seem to be all as they were before the update. If you need my settings file, please tell me the path of it. Previous behavior was to open at the size of my last-used dolphin window, with the same panel at the same width, as shown in attached screenshot. This new behavior happens also with dolphin windows opened when logging into plasma, restoring a saved session. (Some of these are full height, but are otherwise as described above.) As I usually have about 20 dolphin windows (across 6 workspaces) in a saved session, each with many tabs open, and as I rely on these saved windows to get quickly back to the various jobs I was working on, having them come up in this unusable configuration seriously slows me down. I can't even see what tabs are open in a window until I've resized it, and my habit was to find my way back to a job by opening dolphin windows and glancing at the tabs. (Wanted to attach a screenshot of how it actually opens, but cannot see how to attach more than one file.)

Created attachment 144768 [details] 2 of dolphinrc, one from before the error, one after. Both copies of dolphinrc were taken soon after login, before any dolphin window was adjusted. The main difference I see is that the old version has 'State' under [MainWindow], but the new version does not.
Changed component to 'general' as it's not about a panel. copy/paste from 'about system': Operating System: Manjaro Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.88.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 Kernel Version: 5.10.84-1-MANJARO (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 Processors: 8 × Intel® Xeon® CPU E5-2665 0 @ 2.40GHz Memory: 31.3 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: NVE7
Of the 14 dolphin windows that I left open last night, before saving the session, 10 were restored occupying the whole screen (in normal mode, not fullscreen) although I had left most of them at about 90% of screenwidth. The other 4 are full width but half height. All 14 have all 4 panels open. It seems that the mechanism for saving and restoring window size and postion is now rather random. I had 1 window of PCmanFM-Qt open last night, and it was restored with the right size and position today, but the tabs within it were completely lost, so that's no use to me. I use Dolphin because Thunar and PCmanFM crashed regularly, and I use Plasma because I can save multiple Dolphin windows as a session. The file manager has always been at the core of how I use a PC, since Windows in 1995, through Xubuntu 2009-2017, then Manjaro KDE until now.
