Created attachment 144692 [details] About this System SUMMARY dbus-run-session startplasma-wayland locks up my console STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. boot up 2. login via getty 3. dbus-run-session startplasma-wayland>&wayout OBSERVED RESULT screen blanked, X-like cursor displayed, console locked, unable to even do ctl-alt-Fn, tho able to login via ssh, and able to chvt that way. Nothing interesting in journalctl, the only created or modified item i found in the filesystem was .config/kglobalshortcutsrc (i didn't look more deeply than ~/* ~/*/* /tmp/** /root/** /var/log/**) EXPECTED RESULT some ability to interact at my console "About this System": see attached screenshot, on a thinkpad e540 with a screen on vga -1 and another on hdmi-1. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION happens the same in my installed system with linux5.16rc4.211205.g0fcfb00-1, or in the manjaro-kde-21.2rc1-minimal-211211-linux515.iso live system, or in the manjaro-kde-21.1.6-minimal-211017-linux513.iso live system since all i invoked was dbus-run-session startplasma-wayland and i don't grok the output i'm reporting this here, even tho offhand i'd guess this to be a wayland or driver problem. Trying to follow community.kde.org/KWin/Wayland if there are better instructions elsewhere do tell. here's the standard&error output: dbus-daemon[1095]: [session uid=1000 pid=1095] Activating service name='org.freedesktop.systemd1' requested by ':1.0' (uid=1000 pid=1096 comm="startplasma-wayland ") dbus-daemon[1095]: [session uid=1000 pid=1095] Activated service 'org.freedesktop.systemd1' failed: Process org.freedesktop.systemd1 exited with status 1 Skipping syncing of environment variable "EXINIT" as value contains unsupported characters Skipping syncing of environment variable "LESS_TERMCAP_md" as value contains unsupported characters Skipping syncing of environment variable "LESS_TERMCAP_me" as value contains unsupported characters Skipping syncing of environment variable "LESS_TERMCAP_se" as value contains unsupported characters Skipping syncing of environment variable "LESS_TERMCAP_so" as value contains unsupported characters Skipping syncing of environment variable "LESS_TERMCAP_ue" as value contains unsupported characters Skipping syncing of environment variable "LESS_TERMCAP_us" as value contains unsupported characters Skipping syncing of environment variable "VIMINIT" as value contains unsupported characters dbus-daemon[1095]: [session uid=1000 pid=1095] Activating service name='org.freedesktop.systemd1' requested by ':1.0' (uid=1000 pid=1096 comm="startplasma-wayland ") dbus-daemon[1095]: [session uid=1000 pid=1095] Activated service 'org.freedesktop.systemd1' failed: Process org.freedesktop.systemd1 exited with status 1 Skipping syncing of environment variable "EXINIT" as value contains unsupported characters Skipping syncing of environment variable "LESS_TERMCAP_md" as value contains unsupported characters Skipping syncing of environment variable "LESS_TERMCAP_me" as value contains unsupported characters Skipping syncing of environment variable "LESS_TERMCAP_se" as value contains unsupported characters Skipping syncing of environment variable "LESS_TERMCAP_so" as value contains unsupported characters Skipping syncing of environment variable "LESS_TERMCAP_ue" as value contains unsupported characters Skipping syncing of environment variable "LESS_TERMCAP_us" as value contains unsupported characters Skipping syncing of environment variable "VIMINIT" as value contains unsupported characters dbus-daemon[1095]: [session uid=1000 pid=1095] Activating service name='org.freedesktop.systemd1' requested by ':1.0' (uid=1000 pid=1096 comm="startplasma-wayland ") dbus-daemon[1095]: [session uid=1000 pid=1095] Activated service 'org.freedesktop.systemd1' failed: Process org.freedesktop.systemd1 exited with status 1 dbus-daemon[1095]: [session uid=1000 pid=1095] Activating service name='org.freedesktop.systemd1' requested by ':1.0' (uid=1000 pid=1096 comm="startplasma-wayland ") dbus-daemon[1095]: [session uid=1000 pid=1095] Activated service 'org.freedesktop.systemd1' failed: Process org.freedesktop.systemd1 exited with status 1 No backend specified through command line argument, trying auto resolution kwin_xkbcommon: XKB: /usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose:5089:46: this compose sequence is a duplicate of another; I'm seeing several errors reported in the log, most importantly: kwin_xwl: Xwayland process failed to start This likely means there's an installation error and KWin gets into an undefined state. Can you verify that a nested kwin_wayland (something like `export $(dbus-launch); kwin_wayland --xwayland --exit-with-session` runs correctly?
