I have energy saving configured as: "When laptop lid closed: turn off screen", and a 4k monitor plugged into my laptop. When logged in, I can close the laptop lid, and use just the monitor. That's great, because I can almost transparently use my laptop in a desktop setup. I can reboot with the laptop lid closed and see the full power-on cycle on the external monitor. However, the power button is the top right key of the keyboard of the laptop, so if I want to power on from cold then I need to do so with the laptop lid open. Bug: If I close the laptop lid on the animation between entering username/password in sddm and kwin initializing, the external monitor goes black and does not recover. Reopening the laptop lid in this state doesn't recover either.
Update - I can actually repro this by closing the laptop lid before entering my username/password in sddm, so it's not anything to do with the transitory state.
Does switching between VTs "fix" the issue?
