This is a significant product that ships Plasma by default. It should be mentioned on https://kde.org/hardware. The device is not released yet, but can be pre-ordered, which is good enough IMO.
+1 but I won't be the one doing it (I just don't have time available for KDE until at least 2022), but I can offer a review if someone come forward with a MR
As far as I understand (please correct me if i'm wrong) that the list of companies in that page is companies KDE has a direct relationship with so there is some level of confidence that if bugs are found in software/hardware they can be communicated and not a comprehensive list of all the hardware vendors in the world that offer Plasma as an option. So unless we have that relationship with Valve we should not list them.
Seems i overwrote Carl's status change, my apologies
Now that the product has launched, it might be time to do this. :) I don't know if the KDE e.V. itself has a relationship with Valve, but there is definitely a conduit to individual KDE contributors (myself included) which has been present for over two years. They have been sponsoring quite a bit of development, and there is bidirectional communication.
I will need need a good image of the steam deck with Plasma displayed. I couldn't find any on https://www.steamdeck.com/en/press I do wonder if it would be possible for Steam to add a link to the plasma webpage or mention KDE/Plasma on their social media. If we are doing a bit of promo about their product, it would be nice if we could get a bit of promo too ;)
OK, let me reach out to my Valve contact about it.
The suggestion I received was to use https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steamdeck/images/fauxrassic-park.jpg, or a screencapture from https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steamdeck/images/video/crusader-kings.mp4 that shows Plasma. They also said we could make a composite image that uses one of the official promo screenshots with the Plasma desktop added on top of the screen, but they'd like to see it and approve it first. So if you end up going that way, can you send it to me so I can send it to them?
The composite image is the one that is going to work for us, as we need to isolate it and also in the other alternatives, the desktop is obscured. > but they'd like to see it and approve it first. So if you end up going that way, can you send it to me so I can send it to them? Of course, no problem.
