With either the rectangular or elliptical selection tool chosen, the "Tool Options" (default at top right of the window) has a section named "Size". This is intended to manage the size of the user's next selection, however the text boxes and buttons can be misintepreted to be used to edit the current selection already on the canvas.

I'm pretty sure we also intended this to change the current selection, like in the crop tool.

That's good to hear, and it'd be a welcome feature.
Unfortunately it does not seem to be working at the moment.

Okay, I've reopened the original bug where the feature request was misinterpreted.
