Hello,

I like digikam a lot and want to manage my pictures with it. Is it possible to add a file from a main folder to a sub folder with a file link? I want to avoid duplicates and keep storage space, but at the same time have a "copy" of some pictures in different collections.

Best regards
Christine

Hi,

You don't need link support to append new collections. Just add the new entry in Setup dialog and that all. If you want to searchon whole database the collections will processed at the same time. You can also search in specific collection of course.

Adding link support will increase complexity of the application. Links in Windows are different and more complex than Linux/Mac symbolic links, especially with the junction feature. Also, by experience in my office, the Windows link used between accounts on NTFS is problematic and require specific admin rights to be used in client application as digiKam. We don't want to require admin rights to install the application under Windows, as this will require a Windows Store deployment/validation, and of course we need to pay for that...

Best

Hello Gilles Caulier,

thank you for your answer. I'm not sure, if we talk about the same case, but now as I looked around a little bit more I think the tag managing and grouped pictures will be sufficient for me :-)

Best regards
Christine
