SUMMARY

When the balance is negative, it is displayed in red but without any sign on the ledger. It may be a new feature...

But when I am doing reconciliation, I have to set a balance for the end of the period, I do it with the negative amount as my balance is (unfortunately) negative. The negatice sign "-" is not accepted
Then, it is not possible to do the reconciliation until you have a positive balance

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. have a negative amount at the end of the period of reconciliation
2. set the negative amount on the reconciliation balance Target
3. See that the negative amount is not counted as negative.

OBSERVED RESULT
Failure in reconciliation when balance is negative

Have you tried just using the positive value there?  It is known there are some inconsistencies in certain values (balances) being displayed with or without a negative sign, but the issue is only with the display, not the actual value.  That may not be the issue in your case - what type of account is this?
