Description strangequark 2021-11-20 16:26:32 UTC
SUMMARY
Crash Akonadi (the way I did it: delete /home/user/.local/share/akonadi/ CAUTION: I still haven't found a way to fix Akonadi.)
KMail will outright crash the first time, the next time it'll show a 'The Akonadi personal information management service is not operational', with a 'Details' button below it. Clicking on the 'Details' button does absolutely nothing.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Somehow do stuff to Akonadi that prevents it from working
2. Run KMail
3. Click on the 'Details' button under the 'The Akonadi personal information management service is not operational' error message

OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing happens

EXPECTED RESULT
The error details should be shown

I have the same issue, in the terminal you get a meaningful error message:

>org.kde.pim.akonadiserver: Starting up the Akonadi Server...
>org.kde.pim.akonadiserver: mysqld not found. Please verify your installation
>org.kde.pim.akonadiserver: Shutting down AkonadiServer...
>org.kde.pim.akonadicontrol: Application '/usr/bin/akonadiserver' exited normally...

Though this is a really bad user experience :/
