The "Save Session" feature does not work. I need your help to debug such problems. Check what ~/Desktop/.directory contains (i.e. whether it changes whether it reflects your icon positions before and after moving an icon before and after logging out and after logging in). That's by design. Icon positions are supposed to be saved when closing the session. It looks like the shutdown of kdesktop doesn't happen as it should. Simon: any idea why kapp's shutDown signal isn't emitted for some people in kdesktop when they log out from KDE ? Should we simply save the icon positions after each icon being moved after all? We tried to do a little saving there but since people seem to get problems from it... I don't think saving the .directory file for each icon being moved would lead to any noticeable slowdown - but OTOH I don't use KDE on a 486 ;) - -- David FAURE david@mandrakesoft.com faure@kde.org http://people.mandrakesoft.com/~david/ Contributing to: http://www.konqueror.org/ http://www.koffice.org/ KOffice-1.2-beta2 is coming very shortly... -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE9IECC72KcVAmwbhARAr11AJ9KbqWB82XBK1MkhBJ6/3zTvpYB8QCbBoDl MSJBKNN31dA04t807+WPucY= =AlIr -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
Hi. I'm not sure how relevent this is but I will submit it all the same: If I edit $HOME/Desktop/.directory and change a coordinate and save the file, kdesktop icons will all redraw as if kdesktop has picked up this change, but all the icons will remain in the same places. This, along with the fact that .directory is populated with files which have are no longer there, makes me wonder if kdesktop is even reading from ~/Desktop/.directory at all. How would one force kdesktop to reload it's configuration?, just in case it is not already doing so. Many thanks, Luke.
This bug has been fixed for some time, but unfortunately some people still have stale $HOME/Desktop/.directory files laying around which are causing problems. Delete $HOME/Desktop/.directory, restart kde - and begin afresh :). Hope this is of help, Luke Anderson.
Possibly duplicate of Bug #91575.
