Description Martin van Es 2021-10-31 13:41:29 UTC
SUMMARY
Under Wayland, when I use any of the session ending icons in the start menu nothing happens. The screen showing the 30s timeout and the confirmation of the intended action doesn't come up. The sesion is closed/ended/restarted or powered off after 30 seconds.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start Wayland session
2. Click any of the session ending icons in start menu

OBSERVED RESULT
No session ending confirmation screen, session is ended after the default timeout of 30 seconds.

EXPECTED RESULT
Sessin ending confirmation screen to confirm session icon click and the choice of not ending the session, or choosing a different session end.

Possible packaging issue.

Can you run plasmashell in a terminal (1plasmashell --replace`), reproduce the problem, and see if anything relevant is printed to the terminal?

journalctl log when logging out

plasmashell isn't very verbose about the Logout screen, but journalctl is.
Hope this helps.

I can confirm that my second laptop, also a Kubuntu 21.10 install exhibits the exact same problem. So your hunch that it's related to the distribution seems valid.

I added the info, what more can I do?
Comment 6 Nate Graham 2022-01-12 17:55:02 UTC
Follow up with your distro packagers, I guess.

Solved by finding this comment for Debian:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1002693#10

It turned out layer-shell-qt was a weak dependancy of plasma-workspace, but should have been a hard dependancy.
