Description Hoang Duy Tran 2021-10-30 07:23:59 UTC
SUMMARY
Using Alt+S to turn on all snapping options available, then press Shift while moving and yet unable to move the center of object, using 'Move' tool, to the intersection point of guides.

I was trying to follow a tutorial on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjN3yzT_YlE) to recreate a star shape

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open latest built of Krita and create a new document, press OK using default setting is OK
2. Remove the default paint layer
3. Unlock the background, use fill tool to fill a grey color on that layer to make next steps visible to the human eyes. Relock the layer
4. Add a vector layer
5. Turn on the ruler, drag two guide lines to center position, horizontally and vertically, snapping to center here appear to work OK (acceptable)
6. Change the foreground color to WHITE so you can see on next steps
7. Use the 'Ellipse' tool to draw a circle, hold down shift key to ensure 1:1 expansion to create a perfect circle.
8. Now use move tool to move the center of the shape to the intersection point of the guide lines drawn before.
9. Alt+s to turn on all SNAPPING options, but FAILED to accomplish a such simple job.

I attach a screencast to show you my process of struggles.

I guess that's enough, I've run some sanity tests and since they've all
passed, it's worth using this mp3 file

Alt+S does not turn on all snapping options on my Linux system. It may be different on a Mac.

When using the Move tool, snapping operates on the cursor, not the object.

When creating an ellipse, snapping works on the shape boundary, not the centre.

Snapping does work on the centre of a vector ellipse if you use the Select Shapes tool to move it.

If you feel that changes or additions to any of this behaviour are needed, then a 'Wishlist' bug report will be needed but that sort of change will require initial discussion, with explanations and workflow descriptions and diagrams etc.
That discussion should take place as a new topic on the krita-artists forum:
https://krita-artists.org/

Note: There is a 4MB (I think) limit for attachments to bug reports.

I'll set this report to RESOLVED - NOT A BUG but that can be changed if required.
