Description smihael 2021-10-27 19:24:22 UTC
SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add video clip (e.g. ~/Videos/vid.ogv) to timeline, right click and change speed using the context menu (to e.g. 80%)
2. Save project and exit kdenlive
3. Move clip to a different location (e.g. mv ~/Videos/vid.ogv ~/Videos/Project1/vid.ogv)
4. Reopen kdenlive project. A warning about missing clips will show up, giving an option to search recursively for missing clips.

OBSERVED RESULT

After clip(s) have been found, clip speed effect is lost.

WORKAROUND

Manually editing .kdenlive file (search and replace vid.ogv to Project1/vid.ogv.

In newer versions (tested with 21.08.2 snap) this works as intended. Version 19.12.3 is however still the newest version in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS repositories.

Don't use snap package as it is broken in a different way. In snap,
rendering won't start as per
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1344526/kdenlive-snap-version-doesnt-render-in-ubuntu-18-04
and
https://www.reddit.com/r/kdenlive/comments/gu0wz4/rendering_anything_gets_stuck_on_waiting/.
Use official kdenlive PPA (
https://launchpad.net/~kdenlive/+archive/ubuntu/kdenlive-stable) or
AppImage instead.

Thanks for your report!

As you mentioned this is fixed in newer version. However we can not fix bugs in older versions, especially in distro packages. If you want to use latest bug fixes and features we recommend to use (on Linux) Appimage, Flatapak or PPA from the official download page: https://kdenlive.org/download/
