SUMMARY If I put the CPU usage monitor on a panel and configure it to show "text only", it will not display anything, just occupy a blank space in the panel. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Put the "Total CPU Use" widget in a plasma panel. 2. Right click it, select "Configure System monitor sensor", then in "Display Style" select "Text Only". OBSERVED RESULT Should show the CPU usage. EXPECTED RESULT Does not show anything. You don't have to file bugs to the "kde" component, JFYI. :) What is your panel thickness? Does the text appear if you make your panel thicker?
The text is still missing if I set the height to something large such as 60px.

This seems to be fixed now in my testing on Plasma 6. Possible earlier, but certainly in Plasma 6.
