SUMMARY Currently in Kickoff, when you hover between different categories, the contents of a category will change between the categories your mouse is hovering over. This feels inconsistent with the other sidebars in KDE has where you change the category with click, instead of hover. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open Kickoff 2. Move your mouse to a category, and then hover to a different one OBSERVED RESULT The contents will change. EXPECTED RESULT The contents should change based on click instead. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION It seems this was considered as an option in here: https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-desktop/-/merge_requests/292 but was rejected in favor of the triangle filter. I think it would be better to add as an option, even if it's off by default.
Hmm, other than the inconsistency, what problem would this solve?
(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1) > Hmm, other than the inconsistency, what problem would this solve? Fewer accidents for people with not so-good mouse controls, since switch on hover is automatic and the contents will change based on mouse movement, as opposed to hovering and clicking which requires manual input from the user, it's a lot harder to cause unintentional changes in hover and click compared to the now. Also would be more familiar for people who are used to a different setting considering switch on hover isn't exactly the most common behavior to come across.
OK, fair enough.
Ever since we implemented a triangle mouse filter for the categories sidebar (which was done after this bug report was submitted), the complaints about hover have magically disappeared, which I attribute to us fixing the UX annoyances in an invisible way such that people no longer get annoyed and think of workarounds such as making hover optional. So I think we'll close this for now until we get more reports. Thanks anyway!
