Make clicking the current directory box in the location bar switch to edit mode.

Not sure what it means exactly, "current directory box". I see the location bar, and hovering over it says "Click to edit location"; and that's what happens.

I meant current directory box as in the box with the name of the current directory. In your image, it would mean clicking on "Home" changes to edit mode.

Currently clicking the "Home" button there would do nothing. I want it to also bring it into edit mode (just like clicking in the blank space would)

It's harder to click on the blank space when the file path is fuller (depending on what icons you have configured to be available in that row.

This seems reasonable. It would improve accessibility by increasing the size of the clickable area.
