Created attachment 142125 [details] kwrite_no_paste SUMMARY At random times, Kate and Kwrite will stop pastying text from the clipboard, even if said text had been copied from the same kate/kwrite window where it is attempted to be pasted. Attached is a video with kwrite. I think this started happening in frameworks 5.86.0 but I'm not sure. The problem will even persist in newly-opened instances of both kate and kwrite, and will keep affecting them until sending something new to the clipboard. STEPS TO REPRODUCE Not sure. OBSERVED RESULT Kate and Kwrite do not paste the text that is in the clipboard, and which was copied from the same Kate/Kwrite app. EXPECTED RESULT Should paste the text that is in the clipboard. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.21.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.86.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Is this happening on X11 or Wayland?

And just Kate and KWrite? Or any other apps? How about KDevelop?

Cool, thanks. The information about GTK apps is helpful. I'm trying to get a sense of whether the problem might be caused by the Plasma clipboard system, or by the KTextEditor framework (which is used by KWrite, Kate, and KDevelop--hence my question). It would also be nice to know if it happens in any other KDE apps, like Okular, Gwenview, or Konsole.

From some more experimentation, when this happens it actually does not paste in either GTK or QT apps, and I think it might actually be an issue about sending it incorrectly to the clipboard. If I open the clipboard, I see the entry is actually there even though it doesn't paste, but if I click it (so as to make it the current selection), then next time I try to paste it, it will work correctly.

Thanks. Seems like it could be an issue with the Clipboard subsystem itself.
I'm occasionally still able to reproduce this issue in Plasma 6 on Wayland.
