SUMMARY If I have some GTK app with a sub-dialog window open in the background and currently have the active focus on a different window, clicking the icon of said GTK app in the taskbar will not switch to that app's window. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Have some GTK app with a sub-dialog active in the background. For example, try synaptic with its small window of whether to apply changes or not or the sub-window it creates while installing a package. 2. Launch any other windowed app. 3. Click the synaptic icon in the taskbar. OBSERVED RESULT Should switch to synaptic. EXPECTED RESULT Stays on the current window. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.21.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.85.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
An easier reproducer: launch visual studio code, click "Help" -> "About", and then switch to the window of a different application.
X11 or Wayland? Does it happen with Gedit's "About Text Editor" window too?
(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #2) > X11 or Wayland? Does it happen with Gedit's "About Text Editor" window too? X11, and it also happens with gedit.
Gotcha. Cannot reproduce on X11.
I don't think this is to blame on kwin. I downgraded kwin to a previous version (5.20.5) in which this and other bugs were not happening, and downgraded latte too just in case, but I see this bug is still there.
Are you using any window rules?

Thanks.
This bug was reported against an outdated version of KWin. We have made many changes since the. If the issue persists in newer versions can you reopen the bug report updating the version number.
