After havy problems with Kdenlive's version in Ubuntu 21.04 its repository (horrible / unusable timeline), I've installed "ppa:kdenlive/kdenlive-stable" and did an update+upgrade+dist-upgrade to get latest Kdenlive 21.08. Unfortunately it does not even start at all now... Do you not test your software before a release? Who has tested this and the version in Ubuntu`s repos?! Never seen a program which crashes so often (OpenGL-issues?), has so horrible bugs preventing what this program is being intended for (unusable timeline / scroll inside it and time is jumping around)...or does not even start at all.
Thanks for your report! Kdenlive is part of KDE, uses the KDE infrastructure and follows KDE guidelines. Even though the UI of GitLab seems nicer and cleaner, GitLab doesn't have all the features Bugzilla has for bug tracking. If you want to submit a backtrace or cmd output (like you did) you can past it into a txt file and attache it to the report. Kdenlive comes with many dependencies and you're report sounds like packaging installation issue. In comparison to sandbox packages like appimage, flatpak or snap the PPA is predestined for install/dependency issues. I recommend you to try the appimage or flatpak (https://kdenlive.org/en/download/) as they are both very stable. However we are of course going to investigate on the issue you reported and try to fix it as soon as possible, but be aware that Kdenlive is an open-source project with a small developer team of 1-2 active devs spending their spare time and we are not able to fix everything we want as fast as we want. At least we are not aware of all bugs and we need reports like yours to make Kdenlive better.
We are few volunteers to test development versions and releases, and PPA version does work on our systems (and so is true for AppImage, Flatpak, and Windows exe). It's true that we don't have 21.04/Mate, and maybe some other components are part of the problem. From the log, it seems it's kdeinit5 that stops working, when initializing kio (upstream libraries for us). Don't you get crash backtrace from your system bug report tool?
A search for the error message suggest the problem might be solved if you install okular (KDE document viewer)!? could you test? this seems weird, but who knows... and if this is the case we must forward the bug to KIO.

Btw I was able in the meanwhile to start it once (as sudo) - after I turned on OpenGL in options it refuse to start again. console-output is attached in my last answer.
@kickass : could you delete your previous cache/settings which created with root permissions by entering this command on terminal/konsole sudo rm ~/.config/kdenliverc ~/.local/share/kdenlive -Rf then start kdenlive again if it gives error again could you share the output and also output from coredumpctl 's print i mean type coredumpctl list then find latest kdenlive in that list and take its number and write that number like coredumpctl dump TheNumberFromKdenliveInList and share with us that output, Thank you

Created attachment 141164 [details] console output Mint Mate 20.1 In the meanwhile I checked this (Kdenlive 21.08.0) on a different OS (Mint Mate 20.1) - with the same result. It was starting without 'sudo' (but with tons of errors again), after enabling OpenGL, it refuses to start completely. Even without video acceleration enabled - there are tons (!) of errors (that shouldn`t be there)...and as I used a completely different OS on a different harddrive, I assume its not a problem of what I am doing or of my OS. Consle-outputs are attached. Seems you have many, many problems to solve^^ Is there a better video-editor on Linux available which works? DaVinci Resolve also does not start here...its a very bad and frustrating situation for Linux! Horrible. At least when you need it for work.
If you have problems with the PPA we strongly recommend to use Flatpak or Appimage to avoid packaging issues. However your issue rather seems to be a problem with your graphic setup or maybe the qt version you install rather than with Kdenlive. However the attached logs are not very useful to pinpoint the problem further so I am going to close this report now (a GDB might be helpful, but it seems as if you are not staying with Kdenlive any longer so I don't keep it open always feel free to reopen once you have new information) BTW the "tons of errors" are not real errors they just say that some effect plugins are not available probably because they are not installed. In the meanwhile we improved these messages to be more clear and sound less than errors
