video with a reproducible effect

The system starts to lag when playing an animation, for example, when switching wallpapers on the desktop.

I use the latest NVIDIA video driver. The problem also appears on earlier versions of the driver. The kernel does not affect the result.

The problem persists when using rendering backend: OpenGL 2.0/3.0 and XRender.

CPU, GPU, and RAM are not loaded.

I used to use the LTS version of kde 5.12 , there was no such problem.

The easiest way to get the effect
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Turn the game on in full-screen mode and turn it off
2. Try changing the wallpaper.

The effect also manifests itself if you put the system into sleep mode and wake it up. But not significantly.

Also, the effect may appear after a long time.

There is also a slowdown when performing various tasks, I will not say exactly what, but sometimes it is visible.

OBSERVED RESULT

Complete slowing down of all observed windows and animations
Small FPS when playing an animation and not only.

EXPECTED RESULT
Remove this bug.

I uploaded another video to the cloud drive where this problem is observed: https://disk.yandex.ru/i/ZqvuJNjl6g1IQQ

Another report from Wayland, also with NVIDIA: Bug 441265.
Comment 3 Georgy Smith 2021-08-24 08:48:18 UTC
Made save thumbnails: always. I have been working for 2 hours, there are no problems, here is a related Bug 425856
Comment 4 Georgy Smith 2021-09-09 09:15:52 UTC
if you do save thumbnails always, view videos and change the size of windows, then there is also a drop FPS
Comment 5 Nate Graham 2021-09-09 15:35:45 UTC
Well, that makes sense. The option does warn you that it can interfere with apps. :) So the behavior is expected, I'm afraid, and you're in "use this at your own risk" territory.

This is already fixed on Wayland, but is unfortunately not easily fixable on X11.
Comment 6 Georgy Smith 2021-09-15 09:34:37 UTC
How is this not a bug? I'm not the only one who has a problem. This is definitely a bug. The old version of KWIN does not have this
Comment 7 Nate Graham 2021-09-15 14:39:53 UTC
It's not a bug because on X11, there is a warning that tells you that this may happen if you use the "always keep thumbnails" option. That warning is there because it's not really possible to fix given the technical architecture of X11. And on Wayland, it is already fixed.
