sudo (I presume you meant that, I don't know of a sdo command) is not part of kde so marking upstream.  

Could it be that you'd authenticated to sudo within the previous 15 minutes (sudo caches credentials for a while so you don't have to keep entering your password)

By default, sudo does not display anything when you type, but it can be configured to do so ("pwfeedback").

As Paul indicates, this is neither a KDE nor a Kubuntu issue.
