SUMMARY Placing An Icon In Lower Right Of The Desktop Just Above The Bottom Panel Corrupts The Desktop When The Bottom Panel Is Rendered On Reboot or Shutdown/Boot (One Line or more up from bottom panel doesn't corrupt desktop) STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Place an Icon in bottom right of desktop, just above bottom panel 2. Reboot OBSERVED RESULT On reboot when the bottom panel is rendered the icon is rendered on the LEFT, BELOW the bottom panel (a scroll bar appears on right). The only way I've found to reposition the icon back above the panel (It just snaps back) is to 1. Select/Cut Icon 2. Paste Icon & Rename EXPECTED RESULT To render desktop as normal SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 21.04 KDE Plasma Version: 5.21.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.80.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Cannot reproduce. By any chance does it happen when you restart plasmashell with `plasmashell --replace` in a terminal window or KRunner?
Created attachment 140472 [details] Desktop Recording I can confirm that entering `plasmashell --replace' reproduces the problem (See attached Desktop Recording).(Couldn't record before as it spanned a Reboot)
Thanks. Very weird! Cannot reproduce when I just put a single item in the bottom-right-most corner, though. More conditions must be required.
If there's anything I can supply you with, Logs, Hardware Used, etc you think will help you pin it down just let me know. Yours Ian Clegg
I've pretty much left the Icon properties at default values. When I originally set up my desktop and set Alignment to right and in columns the icons behaved really odd. Appearing on the left, which when I went to select them shot over to the right. Reported it as bug but was assigned as having already been reported. I'm unable to find it filed under my email address though.
Hmm, cannot reproduce with right-aligned icons either.
I want to extend this bug report. I have manual placement of icons on the desktop (and, because I had to choose one from two options, I have placement of icons in columns and to the left side of the screen, but they are in reality placed manually on various places on the desktop). Plasma sometimes doesn't remember my placement of icons on the desktop after i log out and log in (or reboot). Especially it always doesn't remember my manual placement of icons, when I choose to place them to the right side of the screen, Plasma then stretches workspace beyond right side of the screen and horizontal scrollbar appears. Plasma has a HUGE problem with remembering custom position of icons on the desktop. My specification: Operating System: Kubuntu 21.04 KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.84.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 Kernel Version: 5.11.0-7620-generic (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 Processors: 8 × 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz Memory: 31.2 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® Xe Graphics My screen resolution: 1920x1080
I've been having this problem for years on several machines and Plasma versions. And it's much more severe than here described and shown on the screen record above. Any icons are sometimes placed beneath the screen and makes it scrollable, which is annoying.
Fixed in Plasma 5.27 by porting Folder View to a new better scroll view type that does not trigger this issue.
