Description Charles Bouchard-Légaré 2021-07-30 02:34:28 UTC
SUMMARY

Since the 5.22.3 (also in 5.22.4), overall performance significantly dropped to the point the system is barely usable.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Use KDE Neon with Plasma 5.22.2
2. Update to a newer version
3. Observe very slow performances

OBSERVED RESULT

CPU usage and RAM usage look normal, but application are very slow to respond and keyboard inputs are delayed in any application. Sound in video chat is distorted because of lag.

EXPECTED RESULT

No major performance change when updating.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Operating System: KDE neon 5.22
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.84.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3
Kernel Version: 5.8.0-63-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-8665U CPU @ 1.90GHz
Memory: 15.3 Gio of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics 620

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Switching back to X and I don't feel any performance drop.

I am not sure what additional information I should provide, but will happily get anything asked.
Comment 1 Nate Graham 2021-07-30 14:26:18 UTC
Hmm, cannot reproduce.
Comment 2 Charles Bouchard-Légaré 2021-07-30 18:22:54 UTC
Maybe it has something to do with my multi monitor setup? Also, how could you reproduce this, I mean how can you reliably pick a specific version of Plasma?
Comment 3 David Edmundson 2021-08-01 23:23:51 UTC
>Sound in video chat is distorted because of lag.

Kwin can't cause that.
Comment 4 Charles Bouchard-Légaré 2021-08-04 00:31:39 UTC
I don't know about KWin, I created the issue in `plasmashell` originally.

What info could I provide to help?
