Description medin 2021-07-15 20:03:39 UTC
When I used 5.21 I had applied Dark Breeze theme and the default wallpaper was perfect combination with it (easy on eyes), but after upgrading I got a new wallpaper that hurts my eyes with its whiteness and it's completely incompatible with Dark Breeze theme, I wish if there is a way to retain those great old wallpapers or at least provide with each release two versions of the default wallpaper : one suitable for light theme and another for dark theme.

NB : The same for Screen Lock and SDDM wallpapers.

Old wallpapers are placed on the store.

The problem is that the upgrade forces the system to change the wallpaper which is not anticipated by user, and at the end user should search through some sort of third party to find that lost wallpaper, something is wrong !
This is not user friendly at all, the root cause is that the user choose the default wallpaper as most preferable background but got tricked after upgrading.

The old wallpaper of 5.21 doesn't exist in the store. I cannot find it using "Get New Wallpapers". It's really frustrating to remove completely the user chosen wallpaper.

Previous wallpapers available (KDE Neon)

Here in my system (KDE Neon Unstable), the previous default wallpapers are available, and they are provided by the "plasma-workspace-wallpapers" package, so you might need to install the equivalent package in your distro.

FWIW, I also tried searching for it via KDE GNHS and store.kde.org, I could not find it either due to the sheer amount of wallpapers uploaded. Maybe there should be a separate category/special search tags for the previous Plasma default wallpapers? But that is another bug report altogether

Nevertheless, the Plasma 5.21 Wallpaper "Milky Way" was uploaded by the original author in https://github.com/ruvkr/milkyway, and multiple resolutions are available in https://github.com/KDE/breeze/tree/Plasma/5.21/wallpapers/Next/contents/images

If I remember correctly, the default wallpaper (or any other wallpaper set) that is selected MANUALLY will not be changed after the next update. It might have been that you did not explicitly select the previous wallpaper so it was changed in the next update.

I selected it many times and apply it on 5.21, but after upgrading to 5.22.3 it got removed and a new wallpaper was set instead of it.

All the old wallpapers are moved to the plasma-workspace-wallpapers repo, which is where they live. If you don't have that repo, you can install it and they will show up. If your distro doesn't install that repo by default, go bug them to do it!
