Description Rafael Linux User 2021-06-29 10:45:57 UTC
SUMMARY
Curiously, I noticed I reported same bug in this forum cause in march 2021 I wrote a bug but NO ONE replied or ask for it. Reading the rest of bugs reported for KRename, there is no any bug answered. Is like Krename was unmaintained or abandoned.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Report a bug for Krename

OBSERVED RESULT
No one is replying or asking about that bug after months

EXPECTED RESULT
To ask about bug and try to fix it

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Version independent issue

Could be. However that's not a topic for filing bug reports about. :) You might try the kde-devel@kde.org mailing list.

THANKS, I didn't know about how to report this issue.

That is not completely true, for instance:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=438613

You can complain the bugs are not fixed as fast I'd you wish, but the maintainer is still around.

The most objective way to see developers activity is to see the current activity:
https://invent.kde.org/utilities/krename/-/commits/master

The app project would probably welcome more contributors.

Please keep in mind, that's volunteer work and after a few years even the most motivated ones will have simply less time to devote to their app.

Well, non reproducible crashes is not a reproducible issue, like the one I reported and the reason cause I begin THIS thread.

Anyway, Heiko answered me thru kde-level account, telling me this about my unattended bug:

"it's just that time is a scarce resource and while krename works fine for
my purposes the codebase is not tiny and still has some cruft in need of
modernisation. For example, the bug you're likely referring to, is probably
best solved by porting to QXmlStream{Reader/Writer}, which already exists
locally but still needs some finishing touches and autotests.

That being said, any contribution to improve things would be welcome."

Personally, I hate that final sentence for USERS. Users can report and give information about issue, they don't have and don't need to have programming knowledgments to improve or help more. When I read that answers, I feel like guilty for reporting bugs that for any reason are not fixed. That's my POV as user.

I encourage you not to feel that, you did some constructive work here as a reporter, that's great.
Nothing more is asked of you.

The last sentence simply does not concern non-developers. This sentence was in a public devel mailing-list not just for you but also other developers.
If you don't find new contributors (both reporters and developers) projects simply go extinct, it is important to encourage all kinds of contribution.

Ok, thanks. All right then. Unfortunately, my experiencie in some
applications bug forums was that some developers do not ASK for help, but
they tell users simply "do something about it" and that's not the way, as
you wrote.

Thank you very much for your clarification. My fault for misunderstand your
previous message. Sincerely, I think Krusader is THE BEST file manager even
among existent Windows file managers, cause Krusader is more than a simple
file manager. It's my day to day tool to work between servers, using FTP,
FISH and SMB. In fact, I know I only use about the 80% of Krusader
functionalities (I need more time to learn, but at work it's difficult
....). So please, never leave this project.

Best regards
