Your video shows that they do in fact have highlights: a faint lightening effect. It's the same for these applets as it is for Task Manager applets. The every is quite noticeable with the Breeze plasma theme, but it may be less noticeable with your theme. If that's the case, I would recommend contacting the developer of the theme in question.
Sorry, but I didn't explain properly. I proposed using the hover selection from icons-only task manager for all items in taskbar. It would be much more consistent.
I changed the title now to "Use the hover selection from icons-only task manager for the Kickoff and for the system tray icons".
In the default Breeze theme, the hover effects for all of these are *already* identical. If they are not identical for the theme you are using, it's an issue with that theme.
But I'm using Breeze already (as shown in the video).
It is very hard to tell in your video because you're zooming the mouse around really quickly, but it works for me with the Breeze theme. What version of Plasma are you using?

Thanks for the lower video. It still does not appear that you are using the Breeze Plasma theme, because that's not what the highlight effects look like in the Breeze Plasma theme. What Plasma theme are you using? Does it work if you use the Breeze Plasma theme?
