Maybe they already do have transparency, but is unnoticeable. It looks weird in darker color schemes.

Ah, they do have transparency, but this is more noticeable when screen brightness level is high. In lower brightness levels, it looks almost opaque.

This is as intended by the designers.
 
Whilst the feedback is noted, we can't please everyone with the default theme. It's opinionated.
