SUMMARY From within the Thumbnail view, make a selected thumbnail, or group of selected thumbnails, available to an image viewer outside Digikam, using JPG, PNG, or similar formats. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS All ADDITIONAL INFORMATION It would be best if the exported thumbnail files are named with the images' file names, with some identifier to denote "thumbnail". The identifier could be appended to each file name. Perhaps the user could specify the identifier. E.g. for image files named Daisy1.tif, Tulip3.tif, etc., the user might choose to append the identifier "thumb", producing thumbnail image files named Daisy1-thumb.jpg, Tulip3-thumb.jpg, etc.
I am advised that this enhancement could be done in the Batch Queue Manager, but I don't know where it is best.
As a BQM plugin, I'm not sure either, the BQM cannot export externally at the moment. Is it just about thumbnails or is it also about the face thumbnails? The local export tool could take over this job. How should face thumbnails be exported as filenames, e.g. Image-1.jpg ... Image-2.jpg or Image-Tom.jpg ... Image-Harry.jpg? Maik
For myself, exporting merely the thumbnail picture with the original image file's name is ample. But I can see enhancing the thumbnail image file's name with other info would be snazzy. One imagines a pop-up with choices. Perhaps in Version 2... Aside: my motivation is to simplify making small picture files from large files, to facilitate displaying outside Digikam. I have an ordinary journal file with file names of scanner-produced image files. Those 500 MB image files are a bit slow to display, and it's a nuisance to run them through something like Faststone since DigiKam has already shrunk them.
