I am keeping personal finances, and when doing so, payee is not at all important. Reports about how much I payed to supermarket (as a payeee) are useless, but reports about what categories money went to are priceless.
Payee is the first field in the transaction form. It would be great if there were an option in Settings -> Configure KMyMoney to remove "Pay to" / "From" from the Deposit/Transfer/Withdrawal forms and all the other places. That info can be entered in the Memo field if necessary.

You need to remember that there are many different use cases for the software, so it is unlikely that a feature will be removed because not everyone uses it. Having a configuration setting to hide the Payee field from the UI is certainly possible, but I suspect the required programming changes would be rather extensive, although that decision would be up to any developer who chooses to work on this.

Although Payees often include transactions in a single category, that is not always the case, and simply including the Payee as part of the Memo would make reporting quite difficult. As an example, I might buy things from Amazon or eBay which are food, clothing, electronics, reading, entertainment, ...., and I do want to easily know how much I am spending at each site. There would be no other reasonably easy way to get that information without using the Payee field.

I completely agree with you, Jack. I can see how the Payee field can be important to some people. We are part of different use scenarios. You find it useful, I don't.

You taught me that using a right click on the header, I can activate the statistics per categories. Option which I find extremely useful. And which is not activated by default. But at least *is* an option.

That is what I had in mind when I opened this report. Things should neither be removed, nor be forced and fixed. Developers should let them be options. And users should use those options to customize the program to their needs. Most successful programs in existence are very specialized and very adaptable.

I do not know programming so I cannot help with code. But I like KMyMoney.
I don't know if developers will read this, or if they would care of any of my reports. That is my way of contributing, by sharing my view on things.
