Present Windows

SUMMARY

After upgrading to Plasma 5.22, the icon and label are now displayed in the center of the thumbnail, which is illogical since they overlap the contents of the thumbnail and make it difficult to find the desired window. Please, see the attached image.

Ideally, the icon and label should be displayed near the thumbnail, but not in it. As a last resort, they should be displayed at the edge of the thumbnail (for example, at the bottom or in the lower right corner), but not in the center.

Yes. It was an intentional change.

We can't please everyone when it comes to visuals. Sorry.

Taskbar thumbnail

I know that it's an intentional change. This is not a question of visual appeal, but of usability. Don't take this as an insult, but this change is really unusable. Let me explain why.

The main purpose of using Present Windows effect is to visually search for the desired window. Also, all applications try to display its content in the center of the view. Thus, placing the icon and label in the center of the thumbnail overlaps its contents and make it difficult to find the desired window (see first attached image). The designers of Windows/GNOME/Android (and I believe the macOS/iOS too) understand this and don't overlap the thumbnail with additional content, but display next to it or on hover (see second and third attached images). This is also why tooltips in the taskbar display the label above the thumbnail rather than on it (see fourth attached image).

Now I have disabled the icon and label on the thumbnails, and that almost suits me, except when I need to lookup for a window that displays text (like a text editor) - in this case, the label would be a good helper.

I'll tag the VDG. If they want to reopen it, they're more than welcome. I just want to keep all my open bug reports actionable.

I don't disagree personally, but I don't think you've said anything that wouldn't have been apparent when they decided for the change.
