I've been experiencing the same issue a while back after migrating from Fedora 33 to 35 and it went away after some fiddling. Now I'm experiencing it again on a different machine (NixOS / Plasma 5.23.3) but with a comparable KDE setup. Switching to an alternative component (Application Dashboard/Application Launcher) does not help, they also return 0 result for any search (not only snap/flatpacks as the duplicate suggests). I think I've figured out how to reproduce: - Change KRunner's configuration to disable all plugins except Windows - Switch Application Menu to one of it's alternative And to fix it: - Enable "Applications" back in KRunner's plugins - Switch to an alternative again (doesn't matter which) If the relation between KRunner and the Application Menu (and its alternative) is intended it should probably be explicit

Confirming that if "Applications" is disabled in KRunner's plugins then Search in Application Menu fails. Also found that a logout/login works as an alternative to "Switch to an alternative again (doesn't matter which)"
Well, it won't find Applications at least. :) It will find other things, as long as it's configured to do so.

You searched for "Kate", which is an app. But you told the system at a systemwide level that you didn't want launcher menus (including Kicker) to return results for apps. So Kicker obliged and didn't show you anything.
Not sure what Kicker is referring to, but at the time the "Plasma Search" settings were not indicating that it was shared between KRunner and Application Launcher, they seem to do now. But even with that message I find it still strange, why can't I configure them differently?
Because the search settings are systemwide, and separating this out per widget hasn't been implemented.
