SUMMARY Unable to see highlights without tooltips blocking the view. This seems to be the default behavior in 5.22. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. This is how it works since the update. 2. 3. OBSERVED RESULT Lost the ability to have highlights without tooltips EXPECTED RESULT Would like to have the old behavior back. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux, X11, kernel 5.12.9-zen1 (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.22 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.82.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Tooltips keep blocking what I am trying to see in the highlight while working in another app, and I can't get to highlights without them. Having highlights without tooltips was so much more useful. I know this is working like you intended it, but it is much less useful for me. At least give us the option to go back to the old behavior.
Yeah we changed the implementation in https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-desktop/-/merge_requests/383. I had a feeling that at least one person would hate the new version and we would eventually wind up bringing back the old option as an off-by-default option (ugh), with a UI sort of like this: Highlight window: ( ) When hovering over Task (o) When hovering over Task's tooltip thumbnail ( ) Never
Bharadwaj, what are your thoughts?
I'd prefer less config, but I suppose we can add it if it's breaking people's workflow. This would affect bug 433764 as well — if user chooses to highlight when hovering on Task, it would also highlight when hovering on textual list (which has the problems mentioned in that report), unless we add special logic to the Task component to change highlighting behaviour based on where it is being used.
Sorry, meant bug 437794
Hi, I'd like to chime in too, to say I really got used to (and liked) the way it was before (even if most found it distracting as it seems) and would very much like to have an option to enable it, like Nate proposed.
This also applies to the regular Task Manager, and I also prefer the old behavior.
No more complaints since then; not sure it's worth doing this IMO...
(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #7) > No more complaints since then; not sure it's worth doing this IMO... I have adjusted to use alt tab with previews instead but I liked the previous behavior. I guess this bug is a case of xkcd 1172. You can certainly close the bug IMO.
LOL yeah probably. Thanks. :)
