Description tempel.julian 2021-06-08 13:23:44 UTC
SUMMARY

plasmashell reliably crashes when moving the cursor between tray and clock several times in a row on Wayland. This has been happening for quite a long time now on Arch. It doesn't happen on Xorg.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start a Plasma Wayland session.
2. Quickly move the cursor horizontally between the arrow to show hidden tray icons and the clock/calendar area.

OBSERVED RESULT

After 2-3x, plasmashell freezes when the cursor reaches the clock.

EXPECTED RESULT

It shouldn't freeze/crash.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Linux 5.12 (amdgpu + mesa)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22 (Arch testing repo, but happened also before with 5.20 from stable repo)
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.82.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2

Can you please attach a backtrace of the crash? See https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports

possibly duplicate of bug 422072
Comment 3 tempel.julian 2021-06-09 10:25:37 UTC
Yes, it certainly is (didn't show up in the tracker entry suggestions due to "plasmashell" vs. "plasma").

Since I'm on Arch that doesn't ship debug symbols, providing useful crash dump data would be quite a hassle for me. Though the conversation in the other ticket entry suggests that this is a very general issue. Probably number 1 reason of plasmashell crashes on Wayland?
