ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I couldn't find any logfiles or any way to diagnose this issue. A pointer for where to look would be appreciated, I would be more than happy to provide more information, crashlogs, whatever.

I have tried to install the 21.x versions (21.04.01, 21.04.0 particularly) several times, uninstalled, deleted directories, preferences etc. Every instance I install crashes. The standalone version will start when run from an extracted folder on my desktop.
Comment 1 Rob Janssen 2021-06-04 11:03:41 UTC
Oh, I should mention that installing 20.12.3 fixes the issue, it won't crash on startup.
Comment 2 Rob Janssen 2021-06-04 11:05:43 UTC
Sorry. I also should've mentioned that *I DID* uninstall first 20.x before installing 21.x as per the instructions on the download page.
Comment 3 Rob Janssen 2021-06-04 11:11:13 UTC
And I'm not sure but somehow the dbus-daemon.exe seems to be related or may even be the culprit. The installer keeps complaining it's still running every time and I need to kill it (either let the installer kill it or use taskmanager). Even when using the standalone version after closing kdenlive the dbus-daemon stays in my processlist - I understand that's what daemons usually do, but I thought it may be worth mentioning since I never had this problem before (the installer complaining about dbus-daemon).

The 21.04.ff standalone version should start without issue.

What you can try with the install version. Kill all dbus-daemon.exe using the task-manager. Uninstall Kdenlive. Then go to the folder where Kdenlive is installed (usually on C:\Program Files\kdenlive). Delete/remove the Kdenlive folder completely. Install Kdenlive 21.04.ff again. Now it should start.
