SUMMARY Hi! I'm a simple KDE NEON user. I was thinking in new ways to promote KDE applications and get funds to encourage development of your DE. I don't know if in the past there were discussions about it, but, what would you think about releasing a "KDE NEON premium version" (aka "contributor/member version"). I submit this proposal because I consider many users, developers or not, could be interested in paying a "fair price" to support the development of KDE NEON and other KDE software. Although anyone can become a KDE member or do a donation, I think that the idea of "buying" something is by far more attractive to human psychology. For example, Zorin OS is based on this model. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Create a paid version of KDE NEON 2. Earn money 3. KDE gets better OBSERVED RESULT Total Budget= X EXPECTED RESULT Total Budget= X+Y SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS *Irrelevant*
Thanks but we've mostly just happy doing what we do for now and pointing people at https://kde.org/community/donations/ who want to contribute financially. KDE has an example of a successful financial development model with Krita and I'd be all for more apps following that example.
