So, this is a strange bug I’ve been experiencing on my dad’s computer for about 2 years. Every few weeks, his panel goes into nirvana. Have seen this myself, one session it’s still there, the next it is just gone.
I’m attaching config files plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc and plasmashellrc before and after the missing panel.

Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.21.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.82.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2

X11 or Wayland? Multi-monitor or single-monitor?
Comment 5 Maximilian Böhm 2021-06-09 18:22:15 UTC
X11 on single monitor setup.

A wild guess: The graphics driver gets somehow confused and labels the single DP monitor something else, and Plasma extends the desktop but places the real monitor on the side… (AMDGPU on a Ryzen 2400G). No proof for this theory. Plasma’s monitor settings just show one monitor.

Thanks.

In fact your theory would be correct. A kernel bug affecting the AMD GPU is causing exactly that to happen; see https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206387

However Plasma should handle this situation a lot better!

We did also make some improvements to this for Plasma 5.24. Any chance you could check again there? The beta is out right now, and the real thing will be released in under two weeks.

I sadly won’t have access to this machine for the foreseeable future…
