SUMMARY I am not sure if this bug is related to Plasma or my docking station. I have an older ThinkPad dock and when I disconnect and reconnect the dock, the display moves to the external monitor and then turns off. I have to quickly press the button to switch screens, select the laptop screen and then the external screen again. I do not have this problem when using a pure HDMI or Display port connection. I also have other problems like that the sleep mode is not activated anymore when closing the laptop lid after I have disconnected the dock. It is a ThinkPad USB-C dock type 40A9. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Connect the dock via USB-C with an external monitor connected 2. Unplug the USB connector and reconnect it OBSERVED RESULT The display is shown on the external monitor for 1-2 seconds and then turns off. I have to disconnect and try again with the strategy mentioned above. Pressing the button to switch displays doesn't react otherwise. Hello, I can reproduce this issue on Dell laptop with Dell docking station. We have many same laptops and docking stations, all having same issue. As a developer, I can provide all required feedback if you like. I've followed bug-reporting guidelines on https://community.kde.org/Solid/Projects/ScreenManagement and attached required logs. After connection, monitors are enabled for one second, blinks and then turns black. From what I can see from logs, config files are correct, outputs are enabled correctly on plug-in but then both monitors are disabled after few seconds. I can fix configuration by enabling the outputs from GUI or from console using command: kscreen-doctor output.DP1-1.enable output.DP1-1.mode.1380 output.DP1-2.enable output.DP1-2.mode.1380 I did not find any reason for disabling DP outputs in any log. Provided logs are cropped to only include one plug-in of USB-C docking station connector. I can reproduce this behavior almost always.
Same here too. I'm using a Dell XPS7590 with a Dell WD19TB Thunderbolt docking station. Whenever I unplug the dock the screen connected to it turns off. The Monitor itself is correctly reported by kernel and also visible in KScreen, but I've no chance to enable it again neither by GUI nor by kscreen-doctor. A reboot is required then.

Your issue is probably different. This issue is about plugging docking station IN and having disabled outputs. Outputs can be enabled in GUI.
Hello, I upgraded to plasma 5.22 and so far so good. I did not experience the problem yet. Outputs are correctly enabled and do not turn off. Running Arch + Plasma 5.22.2
Jan Claussen, how about you? Are you able to test with Plasma 5.22?
Yes, it has happened to me just yesterday, but it seems like it happens less often. > Am 05.07.2021 um 23:37 schrieb Nate Graham <bugzilla_noreply@kde.org>: > > https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=437470 > > Nate Graham <nate@kde.org> changed: > > What |Removed |Added > ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Resolution|--- |WAITINGFORINFO > Status|REPORTED |NEEDSINFO > > --- Comment #9 from Nate Graham <nate@kde.org> --- > Jan Claussen, how about you? OK, thanks.
Okay, I haven't experienced it anymore. Maybe it was before the update :)
It just happened again. Reopening.
Thank you for the bug report. Unfortunately we were not able to get to it yet. Can we ask you to please check if this is still an issue with Plasma 5.25 or 5.26? If it is, please change the status to CONFIRMED when replying. If not, or if you can't because you no longer use this setup, you can change the status to RESOLVED WORKSFORME. Thanks a lot!
Yeah it has been gone for a while now. All good.
