SUMMARY I have been using the two shortcuts "X" and "S" for a while now. This is all good. But just a small suggestion to improve it. Now, I use my right hand on the mouse, and left hand on the keyboard. And when I want to press "X" or "S" I have to look away from the screen, and down on the keyboard. It would be nice if I just keep my finger on the "X" key (cut), and when I click on it once, I get the scissors, and when I click on the "X" a second time, it reverts to "Select". This way I can keep my eyes on the screen, and know that the "X" is either "cut" or Select"! In effect, the "X" key alternates between Cut/Select. My two cents. Thanks. Thanks for your report! Since 21.12.0 it is possible to use the Escape key to revert back to the selection tool. I know that this is not what you requested, but would that improve your workflow anyway (and make the original request obsolete)?
My current version is 21.04.2 - so I can't test it... but will try it once I upgrade. But if I have to guess... I think the Esc key is quite far away, whereas the S and X keys are next to each other. Thanks.
As it has been a while since this was reported, can you please test and confirm if this issue is still occurring or if this bug report can be marked as resolved.
I'm using ver 24.08.2 (on Mint 22), and the [Esc] key does nothing. I still think making the "X" key toggle between cut and select is the best. Thanks
Strange... I tried it again.. but this time I actually cut something, then pressed "Esc" and it switched to select. It seems if you press "X" without actually cutting, then the "Esc" key does nothing. But if you press "X", and then actually cut, and then press "Esc" it switches to Select.
Please try with the current Kdenlive AppImage version 24.08.2 to see if there are any packaging issues https://kdenlive.org/en/download/
