Description aronkvh 2021-05-05 06:42:51 UTC
SUMMARY
I'd love to have a smart uninstall tool with right click. That would be a huge help to new users who are confused with package management.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1.search for an app in the launcher (the new one)
2. right click
3.choose uninstall app, click confim on the dialog box.

(I reckon xfce has this option, not sure)

EXPECTED RESULT
the selected application is found and uninstalled with snap, dpkg, apt ect. from where it was installed

KDE Plasma Version:5.21.4
KDE Frameworks Version:

I think this is a good idea. Taking the user to Discover works, but it's not as elegant as if Kickoff could do the uninstallation itself, inline.

We used to.

It was removed. See 36183b1130629297885361d05055e5336f2a8944 in p-w

We have appstream integration still. This is technically better for numerous reasons as outlined in 19f2cada1745c18a2e720b8003685ab22b5989e7

36183b1130629297885361d05055e5336f2a8944 implies that the problem was blocking the menu population, which seems like it's a fixable technical problem: always show the menu item, and then when the user clicks on it, load a dialog or whatever that can take all the time it needs to load. Of course doing this means basically re-implementing a piece of what Discover does.

19f2cada1745c18a2e720b8003685ab22b5989e7also mentions needing to handle Snap or Flatpak apps, which seems like another legitimate issue. Implementing those is kind of like re-implementing a part of Discover within Plasma, again.

So yeah, I guess what we have right now is the best we can do.
