Description Paul 2021-05-03 00:51:26 UTC
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open dolphin, memory use ~25MB
2. Click to open a large (e.g. 1GB) file in another program

OBSERVED RESULT
Dolphin memory usage jumps to >500MB.

EXPECTED RESULT
Memory use is not significantly affected by clicking to open a file in another program.

COMMENTS
I have observed this behavior also in Dolphin 20.12, and across multiple file types, such as an archive opened in Ark, and a video. The detective work was done by another in bug 398908, and also reproduced by a third user. In all cases, memory use did not increase if the file was opened via right click and selecting "Open with <program>" in the menu. I am creating this report because 398908 is a reopened bug from 3 years ago for a presumably unrelated issue.
