SUMMARY By default, an e-mail account in KMail is synced every 5 minutes, and every time it generates 217 MB of incoming traffic. For a machine that is connected to the Internet 16 hours a day, this amounts to 40 GB of traffic daily. I think this is unacceptable for an e-mail client. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Add an e-mail account to KMail 2. Start nethogs to monitor akonadi_imap_resource traffic, or watch bandwidth in KSysGuard OBSERVED RESULT High traffic usage for regular e-mail checks EXPECTED RESULT Manageable traffic usage SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: openSUSE Leap 15.2 KDE Plasma Version: 5.21.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.81.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2
I've since switched to Thunderbird, so I don't know if this is still the case. Closing.
