Description Ilya Bizyaev 2021-04-29 18:12:47 UTC
SUMMARY
By default, an e-mail account in KMail is synced every 5 minutes, and every time it generates 217 MB of incoming traffic. For a machine that is connected to the Internet 16 hours a day, this amounts to 40 GB of traffic daily. I think this is unacceptable for an e-mail client.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add an e-mail account to KMail
2. Start nethogs to monitor akonadi_imap_resource traffic, or watch bandwidth in KSysGuard

OBSERVED RESULT
High traffic usage for regular e-mail checks

EXPECTED RESULT
Manageable traffic usage
