Description pjotter 2021-04-27 04:31:26 UTC
OBSERVED RESULT
(user added) button 'Loop-Play current range' does not change to 'Pause/Stop' when playback is started. when pressing the button again, the loop just restarts.

the PLAY-button of the preview monitor gets changed on the other hand and can be used to stop the playback (as well as via the SPACE-key).

EXPECTED RESULT
button in Timeline Toolbar should change to the PAUSE/STOP symbol and functionality too.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
when (also) adding the regular PLAY-button to the Timeline Toolbar, this button is changed to PAUSE (as expected) when it is used to start a playback.
it is NOT changed when the Loop-PLAY button is used to start a looped play, BUT it will stop the playback when it is pressed and is then updated to show the PAUSE/STOP icon. thus, its symbol is now out of sync with its function, showing the opposite icon.

Does CTRL+Shift+space are working correct in the timeline? Could you upload a screenshot of your timeline-toolbar to see what you have done?

regular PLAY button icon out-of-sync
Comment 6 pjotter 2021-05-27 14:32:14 UTC
sorry, my report stayed dormant for weeks and I stopped checking on it.

using CTRL+SHIFT+SPACE results in the exact same action as clicking the button. first use starts the loop-play and every consecutive restarts it. the button shows the 'PLAY'-triangle as icon all the time.

screenshot description
----------------------

-> Kdnlive_Timeline_addition.png
shows which buttons I did add to the timeline toolbar. the regular PLAY button was added only to check if it (other than the LOOP-PLAY one) does change icon and function between PLAY and STOP when used.

-> Kdnlive_Timeline_LoopPlayButton.jpg
this is how the timeline toolbar looks like before any of the both PLAY buttons were used.

-> Kdnlive_Timeline_PlayButton_out-of-sync.png
only way to stop a running loop-play is with the regular PLAY button (or the SPACE key or the PLAY control of the preview monitor). this 'stop current play'-action toggels the icon of the regular PLAY button to the PAUSE icon. for the regular PLAY button it was the first use and its appearance changes as if it just started a playback and is now for STOP/PAUSE responsible, what is actually the opposite of the real current state.
(a further LOOP-PLAY start and regular-PLAY stop cycle, will bring the regular PLAY button back in sync with its function)

hope that clarifys the issue.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I can confirm that when you put the "loop zone" icon into the timeline toolbar looping can only be stopped by either press space or click on the "pause" icon on the project monitor.

Correct would be to have first
- another icon for "loop zone" (which is difficult) and
- the "loop zone" icon would change to "pause" while playing and you could click on it to stop.

Tested with Kdenlive24.12: The Project Monitor play icon behaves correct but not the added Loop-Zone icon in the timeline.
