Description Miguel 2021-03-19 21:00:23 UTC
The "Shift" key, which selects the 2nd function on some keys of the calculator, is translated by "Majuscule", which means "Capital letter".

Likewise, the "SHIFT" indicator in the bottom part of the window is translated by "MAJ", short for "MAJUSCULE".

This translation is perfect for a computer keyboard, but NOT for a calculator.
I looked for a very long time where the root square could be, no idea the I had to click on "Capital letter" to get it.

Better do not translate the keys "Shift" and "SHIFT": this is written on most real calculators so we will understand it.

It you really want to put a French translation, then:
  "Shift" => "Inverse"
  "SHIFT" => "INV"

If any French user clicks on the SHIFT button despite the bizarre name, there is another translation problem with the "nCm" button translated by the very much too long "Choix de m parmi n" (choice of n from m).

So please translate also:
  "nCm" => "nCm"
  "n Choose m" => "Combinaisons de m parmi n)

Explanation: the "C" notation is standard in mathematics, even in France. It may stand for "choice" in English, but for "combinations" in French.

Also, it would be better (but no crucial) to use lowercase letters for mathematic functions, I think that in English too by the way:
"Sin" => "sin"
"ASin" => "asin" (not Arcsin)
"Sinh" => "sinh"
"Asinh" => "asinh"
"Cos" => "cos"
"Acos" => "acos"
"Cosh" => "cosh"
"Acosh" => "acosh"
"Tan" => "tan"
"Atan" => "atan"
"Tanh" => "tanh"
"Atanh" => "atanh"
"Ln" => "ln"
"Log" may stay "Log" (better: "log<inf>10</inf>")
"IntDiv" => "div ent"

Hello,
I opened a bug report one or two years ago about the "Shift" key.
It was fixed. But it seems that new strings have since been added.
Again, in this case, "Maj" is not a good translation for "Shift".

On real scientific calculators, this key is usually labeled "Shift", "2nd", "2nde" or "Seconde" (which is too long unfortunately).

The translator who fixed my previous bug report chose "2nde".

#. +> trunk6 stable6
#: kcalc.cpp:931
#, kde-format
msgctxt "Second function mode"
msgid "Shift"
msgstr "Maj"
--> I suggest "2nde". It has to be short.

msgid "Shift"
msgstr "Maj"
--> I suggest "2nde". Altough, "Seconde" might fit because it is the label of the button. I haven't tested it.

#, kde-format
msgctxt "Second button functions are active"
msgid "SHIFT"
msgstr "2NDE"
--> Is already fine, but has to be changed if you didn't choose "2nde" for the previous strings. It has to be short.

Best regards
